Southern Stone Purchases New Fire Boat
The Southern Stone County Fire Protection District has taken delivery of a new fire boat that will serve Table Rock Lake. The 2008 SVI Fire Boat purchased from Max Fire is 26 feet in length, 8 ½ feet wide.
Some features of this fire boat include; 2 outboard 150 horsepower 4 stroke Honda engines that will allow quick response times to remote parts of the lake for water rescues and boats in distress. One unique feature of this boat is an in-board Mercury M2 jet drive motor, The jet drive can be used for two purposes one is for flowing large volumes of water to supply fire fighting operations on land where fire hydrants are not available. The other purpose is for propulsion in shallow water or near victims in the water. This reduces the possibility of any victim or rescuer being injured by the propellers. The outboard motors can be raised to allow for shallow water navigation
The front of the boat has a power lowering bow gate that lowers 70 degrees below plane allowing for rescue and recovery in open water. The pump on the boat has 3 water discharge outlets, all electrically controlled from the operator’s console. The deck gun, for fire attacks on the water and master 2.5” discharge and the 5” for supplying water to fire fighting on land all three discharges can all be controlled from the operator’s console. Boat is stationed in the Indian point area.
