At 3:24 p.m., Southern Stone County Fire units were paged to a one-vehicle rollover accident down an embankment at State Highway 13 and State Highway 248. Upon arrival on the scene, crews worked quickly to stabilize the vehicle with a nearby tow truck. 9 firefighters responded with heavy extrication equipment, taking approximately 20 minutes to free the victim from the wreckage. The male driver suffered serious injuries and was airlifted from the scene by St. Johns Lifeline 1. He was the only occupant of the vehicle. Several bystanders who witnessed the vehicle leave the road stopped to offer assistance and extinguish a fire that had started in the vehicle before emergency crews arrived on scene.
Houseboat Fire near Indian Point – June 18, 2009
Shortly before noon on June 18th, Southern Stone County Fire Protection District fire crews were dispatched to a houseboat fire on Table Rock Lake near Indian Point. The owner of the 73-foot boat was on board when he noticed smoke and saw that the cabin was on fire. He jumped from the boat and was picked up by a passing boater. Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters brought the fire under control using a blanket of foam and the boat was dragged to the bank. No injuries were reported.
Structure Fire with Firefighters Injuries — April 18, 2010
The two firefighters that were involved in the roof collapse on Sunday received minor injuries. The firefighter that was transported to St. Johns, where he was treated for minor 2nd degree burns on the neck and ear, he was released from the Emergency Room Sunday evening and is expected to return to active firefighting next week.
Afternoon Structure Fire on State Highway HH Near Reeds Spring — Feb 11, 2010
Thursday February 11th, Southern Stone Fire Fighters responded to a single-story residential structure fire. Crews arrived to a 50% involved fire and immediately made an interior attack knocking down flames. No one was at home at the time of the fire. SSCFPD crews worked for another hour and a half checking for possible hidden fire throughout the structure.
Early Thursday evening Indian Point Police on patrol discovered flames coming from Wolf Lodge Condos on Indian Point Road. Officers notified 911 and began evacuating the residence. The 3 story 4 condo building was about 50% involved when firefighters arrived on scene. Indian Point officers were able to evacuate the building without any injuries. Fire crews arriving on scene immediately struck a second alarm. 60 firefighters and 23 pieces of apparatus from Southern Stone County Fire Protection District, Branson Fire and Rescue, and Western Taney County Fire Protection District fought the condo fire for nearly five hours. Fire crews from Northern Stone/North East Barry County and Highlandville were requested to cover Southern Stone stations while their resources were committed to the condo fire.
Fire crews struggled with bystanders most of the evening trying to keep them out of the fire scene as the night progressed. With Indian Point Road being one lane in and one lane out, traffic was a major issue. Fire crews were forced to set up operations in the middle of Indian Point Road shutting down traffic for over 5 hours. This backed up traffic leaving Indian Point and Resident and Visitors trying to come home to Indian Point. The fire is still under investigation.
Residential Structure Fire – September 9, 2009
At 2:14 p.m., Southern Stone County Fire crews were dispatched to a possible residential structure fire in Blue Eye. First arriving units found a one-story home with smoke coming from the house. Firefighters forced entry into the home through the front door and initiated an aggressive attack to contain the fire. A second team made entry and mopped up hot spots as a third team began a search for any possible victims. None were found and it was determined shortly after that the house was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Southern Stone County Fire Marshal, David Gyger, found that the fire had started in the furnace room and was caused by equipment failure. A total of eight apparatus and 18 firefighters responded to the scene.
Residential Structure Fire in Reeds Spring - April 8, 2009
Crews from Southern Stone County Fire, along with Highlandville Fire and North Stone Northeast Barry County Fire, responded to a residential structure fire in Reeds Spring just before 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. First arriving units found a 2-story manufactured home with flames coming through the roof on the southwest corner. An aggressive interior attack was made using multiple lines and the fire was quickly extinguished. No injuries were reported and all damage was contained to the roof and attic area.
During that time, Southern Stone County Fire personnel also responded to three brush fires in the area and multiple medical calls.
Couple Dies in Residential Structure Fire – March 26, 2009
At 1:21 a.m., Southern Stone County Firefighters responded to a residential structure fire at 89 Silverbridge Lane in Kimberling City. First arriving units found that the roof had already collapsed and the home was fully engulfed in flames. It was confirmed that the residents, Raymond and Charlotte “Betty” Hirzy, had perished in the fire. A total of 18 fire apparatus and 40 personnel from eight stations responded to the scene. After the fire was extinguished, units remained on scene to assist in recovery efforts. The home was completely destroyed in the fire, with only the stone chimney left standing. Due to the extent of the damage, a cause may never be determined.
Motor Vehicle Collision Resulting in Fatality — Thursday, March 5, 2009
At 15:49 (3:49PM), St. Johns Ambulance Medic 72 was en route transporting a patient to a nursing home when the unit arrived on the scene of a two car accident on State Hwy 13 just south of DD Hwy approximately 2 miles south of Branson West.
The two vehicles involved hit one another "Head On" completely blocking Hwy 13. Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles. Fire crews had to use "the Jaws of Life" to extricate both occupants. One patient, Gerald Hein was transported via helicopter to St. Johns where he was pronounced dead at 5:06 PM. The other patient who sustained "serious" injuries was a family member of one of the district's firefighters. Traffic was at a stand still for nearly an hour as crews cleared the debris. "Incident Commander, Eric Nielsen said, "the accident could have been much worse had there been multiple victims in the vehicles. Fire crews were limited with man power because of numerous calls occurring at the same time." Other calls were Brush Fires and other EMS Calls. Taney County EMS assisted in transporting patient with "serious" injuries.

RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURE FIRE— Friday, February 13, 2009
Just after 3:30 am Over 20 Firefighters responded to a large residential structure fire just outside Branson West. The first arriving engine found heavy fire showing through the roof of a vacant 2 story home.
Fire Marshall Dave Gyger stated the fire operations were "In a defense mode from the get go" despite the efforts from all the personnel he states "The home is a total loss" There were no injuries. The cause is undetermined. The State Fire Marshall has been called in to continue the investigation.
Suspicious Fires at the Reeds Spring Junction —

Stone County Officials are investigating two suspicious fires at the same location. The first call came in just after 3:00 am and the first arriving engine found heavy fire showing. Firefighters made an aggressive initial attack and contained the fire. Fire Marshall Dave Gyger says "I'm confident the first fire was fully extinguished". The second call came in just after 7:00 am. Fire Chief Charlie Neubert said "This is definitely suspicious." Chief Neubert stated it had been reported to him that the tenants of the home had been evicted last week. The Stone County Sheriffs office has placed the area under "Extra Patrol".

January 28 - Serious 2-Vehicle Collision North of Branson West on Highway 13
Southern Stone County Firefighters have been responding to numerous traffic accidents. The most serious involving two vehicles which struck head on. The accident occurred near Golf Range Road and State Hwy 13. About 2 miles north of Branson West. Obviously one of the vehicles had been traveling at a high rate of speed. Both occupants of the sports car were transported via helicopter with "Serious Injuries" say St. Johns Paramedics. One patient was ejected from the vehicle. The other was trapped and had to be extricated using the "jaws of life." The only occupant of the second vehicle, was transported in stable condition to the hospital via ground ambulance. The debris field spread over 200 ft. State Hwy 13 was shut down for nearly 45 minutes, and more than a dozen SSCFPD Firefighters responded.
Chief Neubert says "This accident is a reminder that people get too comfortable when they see dry areas of the highway. Also, some don't realize that slick spots can suddenly appear." He also states, it can get worse tonight because the sun came out today and briefly thawed areas. These areas can re-freeze making conditions much worse.

Structure Fire with Burn Victim — Monday, Jan. 19, 2009
The Southern Stone County Fire Protection District, along with St. John's EMS and St. John's Lifeline Helicopter responded to a residential structure fire just after 5:30 PM today in Reeds Spring. One of the occupants, a male 41 years of age, sustained "serious burns" states St. John's Paramedics.
The patient was transported to St. John's Hospital in Springfield via the Life Line helicopter. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Over 20 Firefighters responded to the scene. Fire Chief Neubert stated "The home was a total loss", The American Red Cross was called to assist the family.
